چکیده
A mechanistic understanding of phenology, the seasonal timing life history events, is important for species’ interactions and potential responses ecological communities to a rapidly changing climate. We present analysis seven-year dataset on breeding phenology wood frogs (Rana sylvatica), tiger salamanders (Ambystoma tigrinum), blue-spotted laterale), associated unisexual Ambystoma from six wetlands in Southeast Michigan, USA. assess whether ordinal date migrations varies among species, sexes, individual wetlands, we describe specific environmental conditions with each species/sex. Breeding was significantly affected by species/sex identity, year, wetland, between year as well wetland year. There great deal variation years, occurring nearly synchronously groups some years but widely spaced other years. Specific triggers movement varied species sex changed season progressed. In general, responded longer temperature lags (more warmer days row) than frogs, whereas required precipitation rainy salamanders. Wood were more likely migrate around time new moon, contrast, salamander migration not moon phase. Ordinal day an factor all models, suggesting that these amphibians require latency period or similar mechanism avoid too early even when weather appear favorable. Male migrated earlier female male A. laterale females. Larger smaller individuals. Differences cues led later colder This suggests that, climate warms, frog larvae may experience less predation due reduced size differences they breed simultaneously. Our study one few proximate drivers amphibian across multiple it can inform models predicting how change shift pond-breeding species.

Breeding Phenology of an Amphibian Community in a Mediterranean Area
Here we studied the temporal breeding patterns and strategies of anuran assemblages in the Mediterranean region over five consecutive years. We collected monthly data on the number of clutches, tadpoles and metamorphic presence of six species in 98 ponds. The data showed a great seasonal temporal segregation of species. The breeding peak of those in permanent ponds was related to temperature wh...
متن کاملEnvironmental Drivers of NDVI-Based Vegetation Phenology in Central Asia
Through the application and use of geospatial data, this study aimed to detect and characterize some of the key environmental drivers contributing to landscape-scale vegetation response patterns in Central Asia. The objectives of the study were to identify the variables driving the year-to-year vegetation dynamics in three regional landscapes (desert, steppe, and mountainous); and to determine ...
متن کاملPermeability of the landscape matrix between amphibian breeding sites
For organisms that reproduce in discrete habitat patches, land cover between patches (known as the matrix) is important for dispersal among breeding sites. Models of patchy populations often incorporate information on the permeability of the matrix to dispersal, sometimes based on expert opinion. I estimated the relative resistance to gene flow of land cover types and barriers using F(ST) calcu...
متن کاملAmphibian species richness across environmental gradients
Large-scale field patterns are a fundamental source of inferences on processes responsible for variation in species richness among habitats. We examined species richness of larval amphibian communities in 37 ponds over seven years on the Univ. of Michigan’s E. S. George Reserve. Ordination of the community incidence matrix indicated a strong major axis of variation in species associations that ...
متن کاملAmphibian breeding phenology and reproductive outcome: an examination using terrestrial and aquatic sampling
Worldwide amphibian declines highlight the need for programs that monitor species presence and track population trends. We sampled larval amphibians with a box trap at 3-week intervals for 23 months in eight wetlands, and concurrently trapped adults and juveniles with drift fences, to examine spatiotemporal patterns of tadpole occurrence; explore relationships between breeding effort, tadpole a...
